- OK, with all the presumptions and opinions being expressed here about the
- VIScorp deal, here's the REAL STORY as taken from all the various press
- releases from ESCOM, AT, and VIScorp.
-
- Due to the finalcial losses, the new CEO of ESCOM decided to centralize
- their resources on the PC line, which would have meant bye bye to AT.
- This is from a press release that was posted in the bitnet amiga group.
-
- Now VIScorp, who already has a licencing agreement with AT for the
- chipset, doesn't want to see their supplier go down the tubes, so they
- offer to buy AT from ESCOM for $40. They have stated in press releases
- now, and several responses to personal email, including to myself, that
- AT will continue to exist and they will no interfere with AT's business.
- All projects are still on (IE Walker, PowerAmiga, etc). In addition,
- VIScorp gets to build their set top boxes, for which they will use the
- Amiga OS (thus should potentially run Amiga software).
-
- To sum it up, Amiga had NO future with AT anymore, since the financial
- shake-up there. VIScorp bought the tech, so Amiga has a future. QED.
-
- Hope this helps clear things up.
